The front end of the Hummer H2 is built using a GM2500 series pickup truck frame, the middle is a new design, and the rear uses a GM1500 series truck frame. It is built on the same platform as the Tahoe, Escalade, Suburban, the GMT820. The vehicle is constructed by AM General at the plant in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Capable of climbing a 40% off-camber slope, climbing or descending a 60% slope hill, towing 8,200 pounds, driving through 20 inches of water and climbing over a 16 inch completely vertical wall, this vehicle is a monster off the road. Its size, especially its width, does a great job of preventing the vehicle from flipping in many harsh locations. Many people criticize the Hummer for its poor gas mileage, but no one can deny it is a force to be reckoned with off the road.
